Snailbeach Visitors Centre, Near Shrewsbury
Snailbeach Mine was once the richest lead mine in Europe, and was one of the most famous lead mines in Britain during the late 18th and early 19th Centuries. The Mine was the biggest in Shropshire and may have been worked in during Roman times right up to the 1950’s when the mine finally closed.
The project involved the renovation of an existing building, which had standing walls only. The walls were consolidated and raised, and completed with insulated slate roof and metal roof lights. New windows and a door were fitted in traditional oak.
